The governorship candidate of People’s Democratic Party in Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, has defeated Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle in last Saturday’s poll.
The returning officer for the election, Kasimu Shehu, said Lawal scored 377,726 votes to defeat governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle who polled 311, 976 votes.
Matawalle is the first of 11 governors in the 2023 polls to fail in getting second term in office.
Nine governors have been re-elected while the election in Adamawa State between incumbent Ahmadu Fintiri and APC’s Aisha Binani has been declared inconclusive.
