The Zamfara State Chief Judge, Justice Kulu Aliyu, has set free a total of 40 inmates at the Gusau Maximum Prison.

Justice Aliyu also reviewed cases of over 700 other inmates at the prison. The chief judge told newsmen that the decision to set free the inmates was aimed at decongesting the prisons.

According to her, the review of cases at prisons was an annual event aimed at checking the wrongs done by judicial officers and the police in the administration of justice. She said that the review would also ensure speedy dispensation of some cases.

Justice Aliyu, however, urged judicial officers to be proactive in the dispensation of justice. Also speaking, the Deputy Comptroller of Prison, Abdulhamid Haruna, described the review of cases by the state chief judge as a wise decision.
