In view of the current economic recession in the country, the Ogun State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria on Thursday urged government at all levels to strive to make life more meaningful for Nigerians.
The state Chairman of CAN, Bishop Tunde Akin-Akinsanya, said that it was imperative for government to initiate measures that would ease the burden of the current economic hardship on citizens.
Akin-Akinsanya made this known in a press statement to congratulate Christians on the Christmas celebrations, describing the birth of Jesus Christ “as an unquantified gift to the world, which all Christians should appreciate God for”.
According to him, “Nigerian leaders at all levels of government should intensify action in making life more meaningful for the citizens as many people are groaning in poverty “.
While highlighting some lessons of Christmas, including love, passion, commitment and sacrifice, the CAN chairman charged religious leaders and Christians to, “Always exhibit the good examples of our master, Jesus, in whatever they do”.
He, therefore, called on Christian preachers to make truth, salvation, righteousness and self-denial the hallmark of their sermons.
Akin-Akinsanya also admonished them to express love and passion throughout the yuletide season. “Everyone shall give account of his stewardship on this earth to Him (God) one day,” he added.
