For beautiful Abimbola Adeyemi, the creative director behind the popular fashion brand, Bibi Quintessence, an individual’s style is a strong indication of his/her kind of personality.

Adeyemi says she kicked off her career in styling and designing by developing an expertise in knowing the exact way an outfit should suit a body type for particular occasions and events.

Bibi, however, reveals that she draws the inspiration for her works from art.

“Everything, music, and anything around me, name it, anything with designs, it’s my imagination and fabrics, most times,” she says.

What has helped in styling involves basically being creative and paying full attention to detail. Spoken and written communication is key in styling business, interpersonal skills, time management, analytical mind and ability to improvise, whenever the need arises

She adds that though fashion is a way of life, style is eternal as “it basically involves looking at your body and deciding what would look good on you.”

The LAUTECH graduate, who started her designing career in 2010 after completing her university education, argues that fashion is an individual thing since people freely make their choice concerning style.

”You cannot force people into dresses they don’t want to wear, but I advise on a percentage of 100; I think I convince 85 per cent of my clients,” Bibi says.

She attributes the success she has so far recorded in her chosen career to her ability to choose clothing and accessories to complement people’s body types and lifestyle.

“I think what has helped in styling involves basically being creative and paying full attention to detail. Spoken and written communication is key in styling business, interpersonal skills, time management, analytical mind and ability to improvise, whenever the need arises,” she says.

She discloses that she is currently working on Bibi Quintessence maternity line.

But aside from styling, she discloses that she is into e-banking services.

“I am all about making people happy in all I do and I hope that one day I will style the likes of American designer, Victoria Beckham, Solange and Genevieve Nnaji,” she says.

For Bibi, there are some ‘must have’ items that she cannot do without. These include her foundation, makeup and high heeled shoes because, “style is a way to say who you are without having to speak”.

The stylist and designer also launched her stunning kaftan cloth line, “Northern Lagos,” this year, saying she was inspired by Africa’s stylish culture, which accounts for the colourful lengthy dresses accentuating
women’s curves.
