Yobe State Governor, Ibrahim Gaidam, has said that elections into local government councils in the state would hold in February 2017.
Governor Gaidam disclosed during the swearing-in ceremony for re-appointed chairmen of caretaker management committees of the local governments in Damaturu.
The governor, therefore, urged leaders of political parties, politicians and all stakeholders to join hands with the State Independent Electoral Commission to ensure that free, fair and credible elections were conducted at the time scheduled for the LG polls.
Gaidam also tasked the re-appointed chairmen to work hard and ensure that basic services were provided for people at the grassroots, including education, healthcare delivery and potable water supply.
The governor also directed the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to ensure that all council staff in the state were enrolled in a biometric exercise within six months to further curb the menace of ghost workers.
