Woman swindles three men for N3.9m

The police in Lagos have dragged a 45-year-old woman, Blessing Okoi, before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for defrauding three men of the sum of N3,910, 000.

The accused person, Okoi, was said to have obtained the cash under the false pretence that she would clear four cars from the port for
the men.

Okoi is facing a six-count charge for committing the offence, which the prosecutor, Inspector Donjor Perezi, said was punishable under Sections 314 (i) and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.

According to the charge, the accused person “did fraudulently obtain the sum of two million, two hundred and seventy thousand Naira (N2,270, 000) from one Habib Yau Ibrahim ‘m’ on the pretext that you will clear two vehicles for him , a representation you knew to be false.”

The accused also “did steal the sum of two million, two hundred and seventy thousand naira (N2,270, 000) belonging to one Habib Yau Ibrahim ‘m’.”

The charge against the accused further read that he “did fraudulently obtain the sum of six hundred and forty thousand Naira (640, 000) from one Nwigbo Godfrey ‘m,’ on the pretext that you will clear one vehicle for him, a representation you knew to be false.”

The forth count charge read that the accused person “did steal the sum of six hundred and forty thousand (N640, 000) from one Nwigbo Godfrey ‘m.'”

The fifth count charge read that the accused person “did fraudulently obtain the sum of One million Naira (N1,000,000) from one Madueke Emmanuel Uche ‘m’ on the pretext that you will clear one vehicle for him, a representation you knew to be false.”

The last count read that the accused woman “did steal the money from one Madueke Emmanuel
Uche.'”

The accused person pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Erinle, granted her bail in the sum of N1million with two sureties in
like sum.
