A house wife, Kudirat Wasiu, has prayed a Customary Court sitting in Ake, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, to dissolve her 25-year-old marriage with her hubby, Jimoh Wasiu, for reportedly sending her and their five children packing out of home.
Kudirat explained to the court that her husband, Jimoh, started misbehaving five years ago without caring about her and the feeding, welfare and survival of their children.
The mother of five attributed her husband’s behaviours to an extra marital affair. She said that he was fond of fighting and threatening to kill her at the slightest disagreement.
The woman, who pleaded with the court to dissolve their marriage, alleged that her husband had changed for the worse. She explained that he had lost his conscience stating that he once sent her and five children packing out of home for over two months.
She added that efforts by his family members and her own family members to call him to order proved abortive as he denied her and the children access to the house and their belongings.
The embattled woman lamented that she and her children had been taking shelter in the homes of family members and loved ones. She prayed the court to dissolve the marriage on the ground that he sent her and her children out of the house. In addition, she accused her husband of denying her care, being quarrelsome, stubbornness and threatening her life.
She said, “I want the court to dissolve my 25-year-old marriage. My husband started misbehaving some years ago, maybe because he had another woman. He didn’t fend for me and my children and never cared about the payment of their school fees.”
Kudirat prayed the court to restrain her husband from coming to her place of work and where she lives. She also asked the court to grant her the custody of their 18-year-old daughter, Zainab.
However, Jimoh denied the allegation that he sent the woman and the children out of the house, saying that their belongings were still with him at home. The husband alleged that his wife was troublesome.
He told the court that he was ready to accept the woman back if willing to return for the children’s sake.
The President of the court, Mrs A.O Abimbola, said since their youngest child, Zainab, is 18-year-old, she had the right to decide whom to stay with by herself. She adjourned the case for further hearing.
