The Osun State Police Command has dragged a 39-year-old-woman, Adeola Akinwunmi, before a Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo, the state capital, for allegedly obtaining stolen goods.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Fagboyinbo Abiodun, informed the court that Adeola, on June 15, 2022, collected some crates of soft drink from a robbery suspect, who is now on the run.
The charge against her read that “Adeola Akinwunmi and others still at large on the 15th day of June, 2022 at Prime area, Ofatedo in the Osogbo Magisterial district, did conspire to commit felony to wit stealing and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II Laws of Osun State Nigeria 2002.
“You did obtain goods e.g. Coca Cola, Sprite, Fanta and some other soft drinks from one Oyekanmi Adewale knowing fully that they were stolen items and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 427 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II Laws of Oyo State Nigeria 2002.”
Adeola pleaded not guilty to the two-count-charge. The defence counsel, Azi Inimotimi, prayed the court to grant the defendant bail and promised that she would provide reliable sureties for her bail.
Chief Magistrate Olusola Aluko granted her bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in the same amount.
The matter was adjourned till October for mention.
