Woman arraigned for supplying sand-filled batteries

50-year-old housewife, Iyabo Salisu, has been arraigned before an Apapa, Lagos Magistrate’s Court for supplying a buyer condemned vehicle batteries filled with sand for the sum of N685, 500.

Salisu, who allegedly committed the offence in conspiracy with another person still at large, was arrested by the police in FESTAC.

She was then arraigned before the court for conspiracy, stealing and fraud.

The complainant, Sanusi Haruna, had reported a case of fraud to the policemen at the station, who swung into action and arrested Salisu.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the accused person and the other still at large “did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit stealing  and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 411 of Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015″.

The police also said that the accused persons “did steal  the sum of six hundred and eighty five thousand and five hundred naira (N685,500), property of one Sanusi Haruna ‘m’ and thereby committed an offence  punishable under Section 287 of Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

The prosecutor further said that the accused persons “did  with intent to defraud, obtain  the sum of N685, 500 (six  hundred and  eighty five thousand  and five hundred Naira  only) from one Sanusi Haruna ‘m’ to supply him condemned batteries, a presentation you knew  to be false and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 314 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

The accused person pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs. Joy Ugbomoiko, granted her bail in the sum of N200, 000.00.

The court also ordered that her surety must have two years’ tax clearance, which must be verifiable.
