After losing 1-3 to ABS Football Club of Ilorin, Akwa United will be playing away this weekend to Wikki Tourists of Bauchi. The Abdu Maikaba boys have yet to recover from the league opener defeat and are preparing very hard to redeem their dented image in Bauchi.
ABS coach, Henry Makinwa, is still basking in the euphoria of the victorious outing against the Akwa Ibom boys. “He is a popular coach in the league and is closely followed. We know how he plays and have been practicing how to neutralise him for the past two weeks. We worked on the second balls and we are happy it worked,” Makinwa said.
ABS never allowed the visitors to settle on the ball before the man of the match, Chigozirim Metu’s cross was nodded in by Mohammed Mohammed. The Wikki technical crew may make use of the valuable tips from Makinwa to prepare for the Akwa side.
“ABS deserved to win, because my boys didn’t play as expected. They didn’t give us the time on the ball. I have to go back and work on our weak areas. It is the first match of the season, perhaps the weather had some effect, but I still believe in the squad I have assembled. We are good enough to win the league,” he said.
