Policemen attached to the Idimu Divisional Headquarters in Lagos have arrested a 50-yearold husband of a senior officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service for allegedly defiling his 15-year-old stepdaughter.
A police source gave the name of the suspect as Peter (other names withheld) and added that he was arrested on Monday last week, after his wife, a senior NIS officer, made a complaint against him.
According to the police source, “The wife came to the station to report a case of assault and defilement of her daughter. Policemen were directed to investigate the case. So, policemen went to the suspect’s house and invited him to the station. That is what happened.”
Police detectives added that the case was still under investigation and that, “as soon as we are through with our investigation, we would charge the case to court, because this is the kind of a case that can put somebody in trouble. The woman is a senior Immigration officer and can go up there to report anyone who tries to mess up her case.”
It was gathered that the angry NIS officer, who resides with her husband of five years at 64 Egbeda Road, Idimu, Lagos, had accused him of taking advantage of her daughter and only child.
Police source, however, stated further that the incident could not be referred to as rape, since the entire act was done with the girl’s consent.
“They have slept together several times, at different Hotels in and around Idimu, even in our home on the matrimonial bed. I can no longer take this from a man, who called himself my husband,” the angry woman was said to have told the police.
It was further gathered that the sexual affair between the two love-birds had gone on for over one year unnoticed by the woman, who always left home at 6.00am every day for work in her office located in FESTAC town, Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area.
“The moment the woman left for office, the husband would start playing love with the girl before he too would leave home for his own office. The man has a very big mechanic workshop with over 20 people working for him. He also sells vehicles; so he leaves home whenever he likes. But not until he satisfies himself with his little mistress.
“He used money and gift to trap the girl. He would entice her with large sums of money, and because the girl is a spoilt child already, she easily fell, and the man took advantage of her several times. In fact, the girl is saying that herself and the mother’s husband were dating.”
Investigation revealed that the suspect’s five-year-old marriage with the NIS officer has yet to be blessed with any child.
Police also said some medical checks had already been conducted on the girl.
“Police doctors carried out tests on her, including HIV, pregnancy, Ebola, and other sexually transmitted diseases, and she is perfectly fine. So, we would continue with our investigation and later charge the case to court,” police investigator said.
The police spokesperson in Lagos, Dolapo Badmus, who confirmed the development to our correspondent, added that policemen at Idimu had tried unsuccessfully to settle the matter between the couple.
“Whatever the complainant want in this case, provided it’s within the purview of the law, shall be granted. For now, the case is still under investigation,” Badmus said.
