Former Liverpool midfielder Don Hutchison reckons that Liverpool will not like to sign Victor Osimhen in the summer transfer window because the Reds are prioritizing the capture of Borussia Dortmund young sensation Jude Bellingham over other transfer targets.
Just like Osimhen, Bellingham has been heavily linked with a departure from the German side in the summer and it could be a bidding war for the services of the central midfielder with several high profile clubs interested in the 19-year-old.
Real Madrid have made an offer for Bellingham, as have Manchester City and Liverpool, according to reports.
Including performance-related bonuses, Borussia Dortmund value the England international at 150 million euros – same transfer fee Napoli are demanding for Osimhen.
The Nigeria international has emerged as one of the hottest strikers in European football this season, scoring 25 goals in 29 all-competition appearances.
Asked to give his thoughts on Bellingham probably heading to Liverpool and Osimhen won’t, Hutchison said: “Liverpool are putting all their eggs in the Bellingham basket by giving him the number 8, Steven Gerrard armband.
“I don’t think they can sell Steven Gerrard number 8 and give it to Osimhen. Don’t think that will quite work.”
Osimhen, 24, has approximately two years left on his contract with Napoli, whom he joined from Lille for a club record fee of 70 million euros in 2020.
