The Chairman of the Labour Party in Ogun State, Mr. Abayomi Arabambi, has said that the party is not considering an alliance with the newly registered Advanced Peoples Democratic Party.

Arabambi said that there was no truth in insinuations that the LP had begun to make moves towards going into an alliance with APDA for the purpose of future elections in the country.

APDA, according to sources in some quarters, is being floated by some members of the Ahmed Makarfi-led faction of the troubled Peoples Democratic Party as an alternative platform in case it loses its legal battle at the Appeal Court against the Ali Modu-Sheriff group.

But while reacting to rumours that the new APDA and LP may go into an alliance, Arabambi told our correspondent in an exclusive interview in Abeokuta, the state capital, that the presence of the former national chairman of LP, Mr. Dan Nwanyanwu, at the inauguration of the newly registered party should not be misconstrued and did not guarantee LP’s alliance with the new political party.

He said, “No! We are not going to form an alliance with any political party not to talk of APDA.

“For us, the presence of Barrister Nwanyanwu, that is the former national chairman of Labour Party, who has left the LP shouldn’t be a point and because he was there, he no longer wears the toga of Labour Party, not anymore,” he added.

Arabambi, who accused Nwanyanwu of causing a setback for the party during the over 12 years that he was the national chairman, expressed joy that Nwanyanwu had left the LP and was part of those that formed  the new political party.

He said, “Barrister Nwanyanwu was our national chairman for over 12 years; Labour Party did not contest any election in Ogun State. So, the people that are promoting Barrister Nwanyanwu, I don’t know what they find useful in Barrister Nwanyanwu to even be promoting him as one of their promoters in the new political party “.

The LP boss, however, expressed confidence that the party was capable of running its own affairs at all levels in the county ahead of the 2019 elections and without merging with any other political parties.

“we are on our own, we have what it takes to run formation at all levels, be it at the state assembly, National Assembly, the Senate and you know the governor and the president. “ he said.
