Some yet-to-be-identified officials of the Osun State vigilante group have allegedly tortured a student of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Oluwatobi Osundeyi, to death.
The incident which has thrown the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased into mourning, was said to have have happened at Agunbelewo area of Osogbo, the state capital, on December 29, 2024.
Sources explained that Osundeyi was stopped alongside his friends by the vigilantes who queried them for moving around at night.
Despite begging the vigilantes to allow them to continue with their movement, it was gathered that the vigilantes, held Osundeyi hostage and allegedly tortured him until he gave up the ghost.
A man who claimed to have witnessed the incident said, “Oluwatobi and his two friends were returning from Osun Mall. They were stopped by two vigilantes at Bekam School junction, opposite MOE Hotel, Agunbelewo, in Osogbo. They were queried by the vigilantes for roaming at late hours. They apologised but the vigilantes insisted that the landlords association of the community must clear them before they could be allowed to leave.
“They shot into the air three times to call the attention of the community landlords association’s chairman, but no one came out. After some minutes, the two vigilantes dragged Oluwatobi to a dark place and tortured him till he fell and eventually died before he could get any medical attention.”
