The Kano Neighbourhood Watch Vigilante operatives have smashed a syndicate that specialised in the stealing of domestic animals within the Kano metropolis.

The Commander of the local security outfit in Kumbotso Local Government Division, Ali Chinaka, who confirmed the arrest of the three-member-gang, alleged that the suspects continued to terrorise the Kano metropolis.

He added that “They operate using a tricycle from one street to another. We received dozens of complaints about animals that were missing from various neighborhoods in the area.

“They (suspected rustlers) usually steal goats, rams, chicken, dogs and, sometimes, they go as far as snatching mobile phones.

“We organised surveillance groups and patrols and also we mobilised members of the community to be on alert, and as Allah wished, they came to operate as usual. This time, the community members raised the alarm, we chased them with the help of the youths in the community and we arrested them.”

Chinaka said that the suspects were in the police net and that investigation into the case was in progress.

He added that the suspects would be prosecuted after the completion of investigation.
