The Vice-Chancellor of Ilesa University, Ilesa, Prof. Taiwo Olufemi Asaolu, on Wednesday, warned the students of the institution against truancy, saying any student who did not record minimum of 75 per cent attendance at lectures would not be allowed to write their semester examinations.
Asaolu made this known during the second matriculation ceremony of the institution. At the event, no fewer than 3,000 students were admitted into various academic programmes for the 2024/2025 academic session.
The VC, while congratulating the freshmen, asked them to prioritise attendance at classes and participate dutifully in their continuous assessments.
“No student ever obtains any degree from any University without first attending lectures whether physically or online and writing all prescribed examinations. In other words, students’ attendance at lectures, tutorials and practical classes are compulsory and should therefore be taken seriously. This is because no student of this University will be allowed to write semester examinations without recording a minimum of 75% lecture attendance, which forms part of the examination mark. In the same vein, dutiful participation in all forms of “Continuous Assessment” is of great importance, as no student should toy with it,” he said.
Asaolu expressed his enthusiasm and optimism for the future of the university and its students, saying that the admission of over 3,000 in about 18 months of the university’s establishment shows that has a reputation as preferred institution for quality education.
“To our new students, I urge you to embrace the opportunities ahead, remain focused, and commit yourselves to academic excellence. The university is here to support and guide you as you strive to achieve your dreams.”
“The University of Ilesa remains committed to fostering an environment of academic excellence, innovation, and personal growth. With a robust curriculum and dedicated faculty, the institution continues to provide students with the tools they need to succeed in an ever-changing world,” the VC stated.
He noted that the University on its part, has provided adequate facilities including physical and e-libraries, books, lecture halls, laboratories and other items of equipment that will enhance teaching and learning in serene, peaceful and conductive atmosphere.
