TIMOTHY AGBOR, OSOGBO
THE management of Osun State University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, has said plans are underway to reduce cases of infertility at reduced costs to those who cannot afford the cost of Invitro-fertilization (IVF) in private hospitals.
This was disclosed by the Chief Medical Director, Professor Peter Babatunde Olaitan, while welcoming the House Committee on Health from the Osun State House of Assembly during an oversight visit to the hospital.
The CMD said this just as he noted that the UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, hoped to perform the first kidney transplant before the end of the year while the Accident and Emergency Unit of the hospital would be expanded to accommodate more patients and facilities.
He said the hospital planned to establish a Fertility Unit that would see to the realisation of this goal.
Olaitan commended the State government for giving attention to the needs of the hospital and expressed optimism that attention would be given to capital projects this year by the State government.
He further highlighted plans towards ensuring delivery of quality health care services. He said his management Committee would work towards making the hospital a frontline tertiary institution in the state and beyond.
On Public Private Partnership (PPP), the Chief Medical Director said the hospital had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with some organisations to give the hospital a CT Scan machine as well as other equipments.
In line with this, the Neo-Natal Unit will be equiped with hitech facilities so that premature children can be properly taken care of.
Meanwhile, Prof Olaitan further disclosed that the State government had plans to give the inward road to the hospital a facelift which would enhance and beautify its immediate environment.
The Chairman, House Committee on Health, Hon. Adenike Adeoye, commended Olaitan for his efforts during the Covid-19 outbreak as the State Incident Manager on Covid-19.
She said the committee came to assess the situation on ground in the hospital and interact with the Management to know what the hospital expects from the Committee with a view to improving the standard of the hospital.
She said that the Teaching Hospital was the State’s inheritance from years of joint ownership of LAUTECH between Osun and Oyo.
To this end, she assured that the House of Assembly would work together with the Executive so as to ensure that Uniosun Teaching Hospital Osogbo is of an enviable standard and rating.
