Uber, the leading ride-hailing services provider, has introduced new benefits for its drivers across the country. The benefits according to the company will be ripped by drivers who are loaded with riders with short trips from the airport.
Uber drivers in recent time have taken into rejection of short trips at the airport based on the fact that they paid the sum of N420 at the car park for their vehicles to be loaded.
The company, having noted this situation, decided to introduce a programme in which drivers with short trips will be compensated with almost immediate trip upon his return into the airport.
The company in a statement made available to our correspondent said, “We’ve improved the airport experience. Now if you get a short-distance trip from any of the Lagos airports, we’ll hold your spot in the queue for six hours, so that you can return to the same airport and get another trip quickly.
“Even if you go offline or do other trips before returning to the airport’s queue, we’ll hold your place. If a trip is eligible for short trip protection, we’ll let you know in the app before you accept the trip.”
Uber however stated that, “To be eligible for short trip protection, the driver must be waiting in an airport queue for at least 15 minutes. Upon entering the airport, you will be directed to the dedicated pickup location and it is important to remember that Uber will reimburse the parking fee of N420 for the first hour only, after you complete a trip from the
airport.”
However, some of the drivers and partners with the Uber have started commending the initiation. According to them, the development will go a long way to ensuring a good relationship with both drivers and riders.
Folorunsho Olawale, an Uber driver, while speaking with The Point, said “It is a welcome development. The former situation was worrisome. I can’t imagine after paying N400, you are given a trip that is not more than N700. Won’t the driver use fuel and others things that aid the car’s movement? But now, that they have reasoned well, the company, drivers and riders will all benefit from it.”
Another driver, Bolanle Adebayo, said “The newly introduced programme will boost the driver’s confidence in Uber. We will now have rest of mind that any request at the airport will be honored unlike
before.”
