HOODLUMS, on Thursday night, set two policemen ablaze in Iwo Road, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, in a brutal scene that sent shivers down the spines of passers-by.
The policemen, who were burnt to ashes in a bonfire made in the middle of the road, were said to be from the Testing Ground Division of the state.
The thugs also set a police station in Akobo area ablaze and carted away amunitions.
It was learnt that trouble started when a policeman allegedly knocked down a youth in the area.
Some eyewitnesses claimed it was a genuine accident, but the hoodlums refused to see it as such, especially at a time when the #EndSARS protests against police brutality had reached a peak.
There were coordinated attacks in other parts of the ancient city, it was learnt, with sporadic gunshots at Bashorun.
The thugs were said to have also attacked Bodija, Iyana Church, Ashi and Alabebe police stations.
In line with the trend the setting ablaze of police stations and prison breaks had taken in the last few days, shops along the affected areas were also looted, while people scampered for safety.
Security agents who tried to intervene were overpowered by the irate mob, while the state’s Operation Burst could not calm the situation.
Governor Seyi Makinde later visited the scene and appealed to the youths to calm down.
His plea was said to have prevented the thugs from carrying out further attacks on the Testing Ground Police Station.
President Muhammadu Buhari has appealed to youths to stop their protests and allow Government to attend to their demands.
Over 12 police stations have been set ablaze across Nigeria, while about six actual and attempted prison breaks have been reported.
