Two fake passengers slit okada rider’s throat, cart away motorcycle, cash

Men of the Osun State Police Command have arrested two suspects for allegedly robbing a commercial motorcyclist of his motorcycle and slitting his throat afterwards.

The suspects, Ayanwole Olamilekan, aged 27 and Odetola Anuoluwapo, 22, were said to have committed the offence in April, 2023, in Ile-Ife, after pretending to be passengers.

According to findings by The Point, the duo stood beside the road, stopped the motorcyclist, popularly known as okada rider, Ademola Matthew, and boarded it to a desolate area in the town.

The suspects reportedly suddenly attacked the okada rider beside a bush path, slit his throat with a knife and inflicted machete cut on his head in bid to kill him during the robbery.

Fortunately for the victim, he survived the attack after some passersby saw him in the pool of his blood and rushed him to a hospital where he was attended to.

The suspects were eventually arrested by the Police. They were taken to court and Magistrate A. K. Ajala ordered that they be remanded in Ilesa correctional facility.

The charge slammed against them read, “That you Ayanwole Olamilekan and Odetola Anuoluwapo, and others now at large, on or about the 13th day of April, 2023 at about 9:00am at Ile- Ife, Osun State, in the Ile-Ife Magisterial District, did conspire amongst yourselves to commit a felony to wit: Armed Robbery and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 6(b) and punishable under Section 1(1) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act Cap II Vol. 14, laws of Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

“That you (defendants) and others now at large, on the same date, time, place and in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did arm yourselves with guns, axes, knives and other dangerous weapons and robbed one Ademola Mathew of his Bajaj motorcycle, one Tecno mobile phone, wallet containing ATM cards, and cash sum of N60,000:00 and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 1(1)(2)(a)(b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act Cap RII Vol. 14, laws of Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

“You and others now at large, on the same date, time, place in the aforementioned Magisterial district, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony, to wit attempted murder and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.

“That you Ayanwole Olamilekan and Odetola Anuoluwapo and others, now at large, on the same date, time, place in the aforementioned Magisterial district, did with intent to kill, unlawfully slit the neck of one Ademola Mathew and also inflicted a machete cut on his head, and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 320 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.”
