Following the judgement by the Osun State Election Petition Tribunal upturning the victory of Governor Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress and declaring Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the true winner of the September 22 governorship election in the state, Adeleke’s elder sister, Mrs Dupe Adeleke-Sanni, has described the judiciary as the real hope of the common man.
Dedicating her brother’s victory to the memory of her late brother, Isiaka Adeleke, Mrs. Adeleke who spoke with our correspondent at her Ede country home on Friday, described the verdict of the tribunal as “One victory too many.”
She, therefore, praised the judiciary in Nigeria for its courage in adjudicating with the fear of God saying it is now clear that the judiciary could live to its worth by preserving the rights of the masses.
She thanked the people of Osun State for their love and support for the Adeleke family, saying, “We are very happy for the judgment; we appreciate the people of Osun for their love, support and steadfastness. The judgement is an indication that the judiciary can save our citizens and the nation as a whole from imminent trouble.
“I know my late brother would be very happy in the grave. We dedicate this victory to God and to my late brother.”
Also reacting, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in the State, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi, applauded the Osun State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Abuja for restoring the party’s mandate in the
state.
Ogunbiyi, in a telephone interview with our correspondent, stated that
the two-to-one split decision by a three-man panel of the Tribunal which handed victory to the PDP and her candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke, in the September 22, 2018 governorship election was a confirmation that the truth cannot be hidden for life.”
He commended the panel for their fairness and bravery in declaring the supplementary poll unlawful saying it was clear that the supplementary election held on September 27, 2018, was needless.
He congratulated the PDP family and Senator Adeleke and the people of the state on the landmark judgement by the tribunal.
Meanwhile, the state Chairman of the PDP, Soji Adagunodo, has raised the alarm over alleged moves by the APC to attack PDP members in the state.
