President Bola Tinubu has approved the commencement of the 2024 National Honours Award to recognize Nigerians and friends of the country who have made significant contributions to national development.

The Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Zaphaniah Jisalo, made this known on Tuesday at a meeting with senior staff of the ministry in Abuja.

The minister explained that the 2024 National Honours will also acknowledge Nigerians who have excelled in various fields of endeavours.

He emphasised that the nomination and selection process for the awards would be conducted transparently, with no charges imposed at any stage.

The statement partly reads, “The forms and processes leading to the award of national honours are free of charge. People should not pay for national honours.

“Nigerians to disregard any payment requests and warned against fraudulent schemes related to the honours.”

Jisalo further noted that the public would soon be invited to submit nominations for individuals who have distinguished themselves by contributing to the nation’s progress, in accordance with the National Honours Award Act 2004.

The Act, which took retrospective effect in 1963, guides the criteria for bestowing the prestigious awards.
