Former Abia State Governor, Senator Theodore Orji, has given hint of his plans to retire from active politics by 2023.

Explaining the reason for his decision, Orji said it’s based on a personal belief that the younger generation should be given a chance.

The former Governor, who is also the incumbent lawmaker representing Abia Central in the upper chamber of the National Assembly, made this known while addressing newsmen recently in Umuahia.

The 77-years-old said “I don’t speak from both sides of my mouth. By 2023 I will not seek elective position again.

“Dominating the political space till eternity is inimical to raising new crop of political leaders.”

Orji was the Governor of Abia State for eight years.

Meanwhile the National Chairman-elect of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu has told Nigerian youths that they won’t get power given to them on a platter of gold in 2023.

According to Ayu, the youths need to understand that the older generation will not just hand over political power to them if they don’t get involved in active politics.

The incoming PDP National Chairman said the political future only belongs to youths who grab the opportunity by becoming active in politics.

He spoke at his Maitama residence in Abuja at the weekend when he played host to a delegation of Benue youths, known as the Benue Transition Mentees (BTM).

Going down memory lane, Ayu recounted how he got active in politics despite the presence of older politicians and subsequently emerged as the Senate President of Nigeria at the age of 40.
