The management of The Point Global Newspaper Company Limited, publisher of The Point Newspapers, has sympathised with Access Bank Plc over the passing of its Head of Media Relations, Abdul Kolawole Imoyo.
Imoyo died on Sunday morning after a brief illness.
A statement issued by Tunde Imoyo, on behalf of the family, said he died in the early hours of Sunday, December 17, 2023, at the First Cardiology, Ikoyi, Lagos, after a brief illness.
The statement reads, “It is with deepest sorrow that we inform you of the death of our beloved Husband, Father, Brother and Uncle, Abdul Kolawole Imoyo, who went to be with the Lord in the early hours of 17th December 2023, after a brief illness.
“We are taking some time as a family to grieve over our loss at this time.
“We thank you for your prayers and support.
“Further announcements will be communicated in due course.”
Applauding the achievements of the late image maker, the Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of The Point, Mrs. Yemi Kolapo, described the death of Imoyo as a great loss to the Nigerian journalism community, the banking industry and Nigeria as a whole.
She lauded the contributions of the deceased to journalism and image-building, saying, “We are grateful for his services through his chosen career and for being a good ambassador of the media profession.”
Mrs. Kolapo condoled with his immediate and extended family, the management and staff of Access Bank, and the media community in general, saying, “Imoyo touched everyone that came in contact with him in one way or the other. He was a good man by all ramifications.”
“This is one very painful loss to me and The Point family. Access Bank, through Abdul, was there for us during our teething period, helping us to grow in the very challenging environment. Call Abdul once, he would answer you twice. He was such a wonderful friend and colleague. May his soul rest in perfect peace,” she said.
She prayed to Almighty Allah to show the deceased mercy and grant him a place in Aljannah Firdaus.
Imoyo had been working with Access Bank since August 2014.
He had also worked in the Public Relations Unit of the United Bank for Africa before joining Access Bank.
Imoyo was also the Finance Editor of BusinessDay newspaper between May 2004 and July 2010.
He was equally on the Business Desk of Independent Newspapers Limited.
The deceased attended the Lagos State University between 1998 and 2002 where he bagged a B.Sc in Public Administration and later attended the University of Lagos where he bagged his Master of Business Administration.
Over the years the industrious, dynamic and cool Imoyo efficiently and aggressively managed the corporate affairs portfolios of Access Bank taking the bank to greater heights in the very competitive and volatile setting of the banking sector.
Imoyo is an enigma in the banking industry, especially when it comes to customer relations with all vigour, astuteness, industriousness, aggressive deep and applicable understanding of the system.
