THE people of Isokan Local Government Area of Osun State have commended the state Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, for reversing some of the policies his administration inherited from his predecessor, Rauf Aregbesola.
They also thanked the governor for continuing with some policies that were popular.
Speaking on behalf of the people during the Governor’s Family Meeting organised by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Civic Engagement, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, at ADC Grammar School, Apomu on Thursday, Oba Kayode Adenekan Afolabi, the Alapomu of Apomu Kingdom, said the Aregbesola’s administration initiated some unpopular policies that needed to be discontinued.
Specifically, the monach said the immediate past administration initiated some education policies, which were copied from the United States, arguing that they were not fit into the Nigeria National Education Policy.
The monarch also eulogised Oyetola for the unique manner with which he was upholding the principle of continuity and consolidation in the administration of the state, saying the governor had shown uncommon zeal and ingenuity in all ramifications.
Oba Afolabi said, “We are commending His Excellency for the bold and matured way he continued some of the policies of his predecessor where continuity was necessary and discontinued the policies that were not popular.
“The review of education policy which was copied from the United States and not fit into the Nigeria National Education Policy is an enough example.”
The traditional ruler, however, appreciated the governor for all his value added interventions such as refurbishment of comprehensive health centre, rehabilitation of roads, school and some primary healthcare centres, and urged him to consider the community for other projects that would make life more convenient for the people.
“We thank His Excellency for arranging this Town Hall meeting to facilitate interactive sessions between the government and the people. We suggest that this kind of meeting be held at intervals of time to bridge the gap between the government and the governed,” he said.
In their separate remarks, the majority leader in state assembly, Olanrewaju Maruf; and Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Yemi Lawal, described Oyetola as a selfless leader who had done well in ensuring that the welfare of the people is guaranteed.
They then urged the people to continue lending their support to the governor’s service driven administration.
While speaking, Oyintiloye, who represented the governor at the event, explained that the interactive session was part of engagement frameworks of Governor Oyetola, in a bid to entrench the best democratic standard in the state.
