The Criminal Investigation Department of Zone XI, Nigeria Police Force has arrested three suspects including an 18 year old boy, for allegedly attempting to murder a man.
The teenager, Semiu Rafiu, was nabbed alongside James Joseph, aged 32, and Sunday Olatunji, 40 for conspiring to assault one Oladejo Olayinka at Odesan village in Osun State.
Rafiu and two others were accused of committing the offence on February 9, 2025.
After investigation, the Force dragged the trio before a Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo and slammed them with four counts bordering on attempted murder.
In the charge sheet obtained by The Point, the Inspector General of Police is the complainant.
Police prosecutor, Saheed Anifowose, an Inspector, informed the court that the three defendants hit Olayinka with broken bottles on his forehead, of which he sustained injury from.
The charge read, “That you James Joseph, Sunday Olatunji, Semiu Raifu on the 9th February, 2025 at Odesan Village, in the Osogbo Magisterial district did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit Attempted Murder, Grievous Harms, Assault, forcible entry, threaten violence and Malicious Damage and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.
“That you did attempt to murder one Oladejo Akeem Olayinka with dangerous weapons such as broken bottles and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 320 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II laws of Osun state of Nigeria 2002.
“That you James Joseph, Sunday Olatunji, Semiu Raifu on the same date, place and aforementioned Magisterial District, did assault one Oladejo Akeem Olayinka by stabbing him with broken bottles on his forehead causing him injury and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 355 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II Laws of Osun State Nigeria 2002.”
The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the allegations.
Their counsel, E. Eniolapo made attempts to move the court to granting bail but the presiding Chief Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara ordered for a formal bail application.
He adjourned the matter till May 12 for mention while the defendants were remanded in Ilesa Correctional Centre.
