Teenager drowns while hawking in Kano

An 18-year-old boy, Muhammed Ghali, has reportedly died in a mysterious circumstance inside a pond located at Jan Blocks Quarters in Kano metropolis.

The spokesman of the Kano State Fire Service, Mr Saminu Yusuf, who confirmed the incident, told The Point that the deceased was a hawker, who traded his wares in the area.

According to him, the incident was reported to the state Fire Service by a resident of the area, Mallam Inuwa Muazu.
Yusuf disclosed that the teenager drowned on June 16 at about 8pm, saying he was rushed to the hospital but efforts made to resuscitate him proved abortive.

“On Wednesday, 16th June at about 8pm, we received a distress call from one Inuwa Muazu who informed us that a man had drowned in a pond in Jan Block Quarters.

“We quickly dispatched our officers and men to the scene of the accident, the drowned boy was rescued in a state of unconsciousness and was taken to the hospital for resuscitation.

“The victim was taken to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital where doctors certified him dead. We had notified the Police and investigation would be conducted to unravel the cause of his death,” the spokesperson for the Fire Service said.
