A teenager who allegedly put his newborn daughter in a tree and shot her twice in the head has been charged with murder.
Logan Kruckenberg-Anderson, 16, from Wisconsin, first said he’d left the baby girl in a snowy wooded area to die after he and the baby’s mother decided they couldn’t look after her, it is alleged.
But reports accuse him of later admitting he had shot the baby, named Harper, in the head twice and tried to hide her corpse.
Harper’s body was found on Sunday with bullet shell casing nearby.
Kruckenberg-Anderson, who is being charged as an adult, was on Tuesday charged with first-degree intentional homicide and hiding the corpse of a child last week.
The baby’s mum, who has not been named, gave birth to Harper in the bathtub of their home in Albany on January 5.
She had reportedly told authorities she and Kruckenberg-Anderson had decided they would make plans to take Harper to a friend who would then take her to an adoption agency.
Kruckenberg-Anderson initially claimed he’d met his friend on the day the baby was born and handed her over, paying him $60, it is reported.
But Kruckenberg-Anderson was unable to give the friend’s surname or phone number and claimed they’d met on Snapchat.
The dad’s story then changed in another interview with police the following day when he allegedly said he and the mum had decided they’d leave the baby somewhere.
He is accused of leaving the naked baby in a fallen tree covered with snow – knowing his child would die.
But Kruckenberg-Anderson’s story changed yet again after authorities found the baby with gunshot wounds on her forehead.
Kruckenberg-Anderson then allegedly said he’d put Harper in the snow and shot her twice.
Under Wisconsin law, anyone over the age of 10 is automatically charged as an adult when charged with first-degree intentional homicide.
The dad appeared in court on Tuesday when bail was set and is due back in court for a preliminary hearing on January 20.
