GOVERNOR Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has commended the National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party for the party’s decision to go ahead with the South-West Zonal Congress.

The congress is scheduled to hold on Saturday, April 10, 2021.

The Governor, however, warned the party against those he described as divisive elements within the PDP, saying they must not be allowed to “unduly influence party decisions at the national level.”

While stating that he was glad, as the only PDP Governor in the South-West, that the party “bowed to superior reasoning regarding the congress”, he warned that any further shift of the Congress date would have dire consequences.

Makinde noted, “As the only serving PDP governor in the Southwest and an invested party in the PDP’s growth and development, I commend the National Working Committee (NWC) for the decision to go ahead with the Southwest Congress.

“The NWC should rise to its responsibilities and prevail on the person or persons acting as clogs in the wheel of the party’s progress. Remember, the PDP is greater than any individual.”

“Any attempt to shift the date of the PDP National Congress from April 10 is a signal to party loyalists that the hierarchy has been compromised,” he declared.
