The Iwo Traditional Council has demanded the immediate suspension of the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, for allegedly assaulting Oba Dikrullahi Akinropo, the Agbowu of Ogbaagbaa.
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 11, Bashir Makama, had called a peace meeting in Osogbo on Friday to settle a land dispute in Iwo, where the Oluwo had allegedly physically attacked Oba Akinropo.
Protesters from Ayedire and Ola-Oluwa local government areas stormed the Osun State secretariat in Osogbo on Monday to call for Oluwo’s suspension in reaction to the alleged assault, which has attracted public outrage.
The protesters gathered from Agberire, Ogbaagbaa, Ilemowu, Ile Ogbo, Kuta and Oluponna, insisting that Oba Akanbi must be suspended for peace to reign in Iwo and its environs.
The Traditional Council said in a communiqué to Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, after an emergency meeting on Sunday that Oluwo should also be suspended as chairman of the council for his behaviour.
They also urged the Police to conclude their investigations “and arraign Oba Adewale Akanbi immediately.”
