Suspected cultist allegedly kills four persons, terrorizes Osun residents

A 30-year-old suspected cultist, Olaleye Quadri, has been arrested by the police for allegedly killing four persons and terrorizing some residents of the state.

Quadri was dragged before a Magistrate’s Court in Osogbo over the alleged murder of his victims, suspected to be rival cult members. He was also accused of possessing arms and terrorizing the residents of Osogbo, the state capital.

He was said to have committed the offence alongside other suspected cultists said to be at large around 6pm in Osogbo, on February 13, 2022.

The charge brought against him read that “Olaleye Quadri and others now at large, on February 13, 2022, at about 1800hours in Osogbo, Osun State in the Osogbo Magisterial District, did unlawfully kill four people by firing them with a gun which led to their death thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.

“You and others now at large, on the same date, time, place and in the aforementioned magisterial district, did unlawfully kill one Hassan Adedeji by firing him with a gun which led to his death thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.

“Quadri did unlawfully kill one Idowu a.k.a Delta Boy by firing him with a gun which led to his death thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.

“You did unlawfully kill one Abass Idowu by firing him with a gun which led to his death thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.

“You did unlawfully kill one Ajao Taofeeq by firing him with a gun which led to his death thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.”

The charge further read, “You, Olaleye Quadri and others now at large, on the same date, time, place and in the aforementioned magisterial district, did unlawfully have in your possession one local revolver which you could not give satisfactory account of and without lawful authority and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 5 of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act, Cap R II, Volume 14 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

“You did conspire amongst yourselves to commit a felony to wit: being members of unlawful society and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II Law Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.

“You did engage yourselves in unlawful society known as Eiye Confraternity and unleashed terror in Osogbo and its environs and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 64 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.

“You did conduct yourselves in a manner likely to cause breach of public peace to cause persons in Osogbo and its environs to fear and or panic and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 249 (d) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.”

Due to the severe nature of the allegations, the plea of the accused was not taken.

Magistrate A. O. Daramola directed the Police prosecutor, ASP John Idoko, to duplicate the case file and forward the same to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution in the state for legal advice.

Daramola ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Ilesa Correctional Centre.
