A 54-year-old man, Oni Isaac, is currently being prosecuted by the Police in Osun State for allegedly failing to meet up with an appointment at a police station in Osogbo, the state capital.
Isaac was said to have stood surety for a suspect in a case of malicious damage but failed to appear at the police station in keeping with the slated appointment.
The surety allegedly committed the offence on April 8, 2022 at Dada Estate Police Station, Osogbo.
The charge against him read that “Oni Isaac on April 8, 2022 at about 10am at Dada Estate Police Station, Osogbo, did conspire with one Nasiru Oguniran, being a suspect in a case of malicious damage to pervert, prevent and defeat course of justice when you took him on bail and failed to appear at the police station in the said case.”
Police prosecutor, ASP John Idoko, said the defendant committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 126(1) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II, Laws of Osun, 2002.
Without any legal representation, Isaac pleaded not guilty to the allegation.
Magistrate M. A. Olatunji granted him bail in the sum of N250, 000 with two sureties in like amount.
The case was adjourned till May 26 for hearing.
