THE House of Representatives has said the two weeks deadline given to subscribers to provide their National Identification Numbers to service providers is grossly inadequate.
The lawmakers have therefore called on the Federal Government to extend the deadline by eight weeks, making a total of 10 weeks.
The call was made during plenary on Wednesday, after a motion of urgent public importance on the matter by the Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu.
The Reps members who adopted the motion, resolved that the provision of NIN deadline should be January 28, 2021.
The Point had reported that the Nigerian Communications Commission had directed all operators to mandate their subscribers to provide valid National Identification Numbers to update their SIM registration records.
This followed the earlier directive on the suspension of new SIM registration by network operators.
The Commission said the submission of NIN by subscribers would take place within two weeks (from December 16, 2020 to December 30, 2020), adding that after the deadline, all SIMs without NINs would be blocked from all networks.
