Prominent Lagos lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr. Festus Keyamo, has deplored the politicisation of the abduction and release of 105 school girls from Dapchi in Yobe State by the Boko Haram insurgents.

Keyamo, who is also an international arbitrator, argued that contrary to claims, there was nothing political about the Dapchi girls’ kidnap and release by the insurgents and should, therefore, not be given any political colouration.

The lawyer, on his Twitter handle, stressed that the incident was not politically inclined as being speculated in many quarters.

Keyamo said, “Our elation at the return of the Dapchi girls must be subdued by the news of death of some. Let us put politics aside and applaud the rescue as an end, which justifies whatever means was used. All sincere BringBackOurGirls advocates have always insisted on rescue, no matter the means.

“The Dapchi incident is not about politics, please. No side has lost or gained. Government has no reason to gloat because it should not have happened in the first place under its watch. For naysayers, if they were your daughters, you would be eternally grateful to whoever brought them back home.”

He added, “Some characters, who pretended to be the loudest in grieving with the Dapchi parents, now refused to be the loudest in rejoicing with them. It is typical hypocrisy exposed. It is the way of politics; it is like witches, who wail the loudest during burials, but cannot remember the name of the deceased.

“The same people, who could not pass a first degree couse on the meaning of ‘return’ or ‘rescue’ in 2014, when Chibok happened, are now posing as English professors in dissecting the meaning of the two words in relation to Dapchi. But as they keep dissecting, the girls are drinking zobo at home.”
