The childlike personality of Chinedu Ikedieze, popularly known as Aki, has been a blessing in disguise for him. And he is grateful to God for giving him the quality that brings food on the table.
He told The Point that an actor should always ask what gave him or her a particular job. He said it could be one’s appearance or intellect, adding that one should always be grateful to God for blessing him or her with such quality.
He, however, noted that playing a child’s role in movies was not always easy.
“At that point, the adult in you disappears because you wear the dress of a child and you’ve become one. When people see you outside, they also relate with the person they see on TV.”
Interestingly, Aki does not have the intention of stopping certain roles. He also said that he could act any role once he is not going against the ethics and norms of the job.
But Aki has stopped doing things with Osita (Pawpaw), his kid friend with whom he had taken many roles in the past.
He explained that this was because they have grown in the industry over the years and they are now into many other things.
“Sometimes, I might be busy and Osita might be busy too. Starring in movies together is based on our availability and it is not anyone’s fault.”
Speaking about being married, Aki expressed the believe that it had brought out the man in him. He, however, added that if one was not ready for marriage and goes into it, the person would come out unfulfilled.
“Two of you must understand one another. If there is understanding, you will marry and stay married. I just believe a lot of people are not ready; they just jumped into it because they are in to get one or two things. People also go into it because of societal or family pressure.”
How did he then react when it was reported that he had divorced his wife? “As a celebrity, people are bound to say things about you. If you are not important, nobody will talk about you. We have many bloggers that you cannot even sue because they don’t have offices. They just wake up and come up with one headline that catches the attention of everybody. And 80 per cent of Nigerians don’t read contents; they only read headlines. But in as much as the trending thing now is the number of people that visit your site, you should not be doing that at the detriment of others,” he said.
Apart from movies, Aki is a businessman. Though, he doesn’t feel comfortable sharing personal things with people, he has invested in tourism and other businesses.
