- Makinde advises new council officials
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has urged chairmen and councillors elected under the platform of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party to stay away from local government secretariats in the state.
The governor explained he doesn’t want any violent confrontation at the councils, urging the new council officials to avoid the secretariats until there is a clear judicial directive that would make their resumption non-violent.
Adeleke made this known while validating the swearing-in of the elected local government chairmen across the state on Sunday at the Banquet Hall of the State Government House in Osogbo.
Addressing the council officials, Adeleke said, “I urge you and your councilors to please stay away from the council secretariats to avoid any clash with those whom the police had aided to forcefully occupy the local government secretariats. An Osun State High Court had affirmed the vacancies in both the Chairman and Councilors positions in all of Osun State Local Governments before your election on the 22nd February 2025.
“We will, therefore, rely on the judiciary to ensure a peaceful removal of those illegally occupying the local government secretariats.
“Please be patient and always abide by the rule of law.”
The governor thanked the people of the state for standing by him.
He also acknowledged the contributions of Mr President Bola Tinubu over the success of the local government poll, saying, “I am most grateful to Mr President for rejecting efforts by some forces to plunge Osun into chaos. I assure Mr President of our commitment to the rule of law and the constitution for conflict resolution and governance process.”
Speaking, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, warned the elected chairmen under APC against resorting to self-help, urging the PDP chairmen and councilors not to forget the promises they made for the people.
He told the chairmen and councilors at the event, “Don’t forget the promises you made during our campaign, this is an opportunity for you to deliver goodies to the people at the grassroots level. This will be your stepping stones to higher positions and the reward for hardwork and for delivering is more work.
“We don’t want wild west again. They should stay away from this zone. We want to peacefully provide the dividend of democracy to the people. They should not resort to self help even if there is a court judgment. They should not think because they have Federal might. This is a Federal arrangement. I will stop here.”
