The Rector of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Prof. Oludele Itiola, has urged the technical committee to speed up the transition process of the institution into a university of science and technology.

Itiola said that this would enable the management of the institution to commence the admission of students into the newly approved university by next year.

Governor Ibikunle Amosun had recently signed into law a bill upgrading the polytechnic into a university of science and technology.

But while reacting to the development in his office, the rector said that without the committee perfecting all the necessary transition processes of documentation with the National Universities Commission, it would be impossible for the institution to commence any degree programme.

He said, “You see, the Technical C o m m i t t e e consists of seasoned professionals, who know the A to Z of tertiary education. So, their wealth of experience would be bought into making sure that all the necessary documentation with the NUC be done as properly as it should be, and that all the right steps are taken to make sure that the polytechnic transits into a university of science and technology in the proper way.”

The rector, however, expressed confidence that before the next admission process of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board commenced, the committee would have completed its assignment on the transition process of the school into a university so that the institution could start admitting students into the said university.

“Considering the fact that we have another twelve months before the next admission process of JAMB, I am confident that the technical committee would have completed its assignment and we should be ready to start the implementation and I believe that by then, we would be able to start admission of students into the university of science and technology,” he said.

Itiola, who noted that the upgrading of the school into a university of science was a welcome development in the education sector of the state, said that when it fully takes off, it would improve more on its innovations by seeking the necessary support from the World Bank and UNESCO.
