Italy U21 international of Nigerian descent Destiny Udogie has showered praise on Tottenham Hotspur captain Heung-min Son after the striker netted his first goals of the season in a 5-2 rout of Burnley at Turf Moor at the weekend.
Heung-min Son was appointed Tottenham Hotspur captain just before their first game of the 2023-2024 season, taking over the captain’s armband from Hugo Lloris, while James Maddison and Cristian Romero were named vice-captains.
The three players accounted for the five goals scored by the Lilywhites in the big win over the Clarets and Son was the star of the show with a hat-trick – his fifth since his arrival at the north London club from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015.
After Lyle Foster opened the scoring in the 4th minute, Son equalized with a clever chip over the goalkeeper, netted his second of the afternoon in the 63rd minute before completing his hat-trick three minutes later.
For the second consecutive Premier League game, Udogie bagged an assist, setting up Maddison in the 54th minute for Tottenham’s third goal.
The Italian-Nigerian left-back hailed Son for his hat-trick and also revealed the influence the South Korean has in the Tottenham Hotspur dressing room.
“Son is an amazing player, I’m happy for him. He helped us to win the game today and we move on,” Udogie told reporters.
“He’s a real leader, he’s a good guy, he speaks with us everyday and showed a strong mentality on the pitch, that’s the most important thing.”
