The Osun State Police Command has dragged two siblings before a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo for allegedly stealing from their landlady and beating her to stupor.
The female defendants, Kehinde Adeyeye, 30 and Omolara Adeyeye, 26, were said to have committed the offence between October 14 and 15, 2022 at Gbonmi area, Osogbo.
Kehinde was accused of stealing the sum of N80, 000 from the woman named Rukayat Yaya around 5:30am in October. It was learnt that out of annoyance, Kehinde invited Omolara to join her in dealing with the woman for daring to confront her with the allegation.
The duo reportedly inflicted injury on Yaya’s face, neck and finger nails during an attack on her at her residence.
The charge against her read that “You, Kehinde Adeyeye, on October 14, 2022 at about 5:30am at Gbonmi area, Osogbo, did steal the sum of N80, 000 kept in a bag, property of one Mrs. Yaya Rukayat and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II, Laws of Osun, 2002.
“You, Kehinde Adeyeye and Omolara Adeyeye, on October 15, 2022 at about 7:15am at Gbonmi area, Osogbo, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit assault occasioning harm and (thereby) committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II Laws of Osun State.
“You (the siblings), on the same date and time, did assault one Yaya Rukayat by beating her and inflicting injury on her face, neck and finger nails and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 355 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II, Laws of Osun State, 2002.”
The siblings pleaded not guilty to the three-count-charge slammed against them.
While praying the court to release the defendants on bail, their counsel, Tunbosun Oladipupo, said that they would present responsible personalities to stand sureties for them.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Olayiwola Rasaq, asked the court to use its discretion to determine whether to grant bail to the defendants or not.
Magistrate A. O. Odeleye granted the accused persons bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties each in the same amount. One of the sureties, he said, must be a blood relation of the defendants resident within the jurisdiction of the court.
