An 11-year-old girl, simply identified as Ejire, has reportedly committed suicide after her plan of going out on Christmas day failed.

Ejire, who lived with her parents around Jafariya Mosque area, Sogbo community, Oke-Baale, Osogbo, capital of Osun State, was said to have hanged herself to death.

THE POINT gathered that the parents of the girl were about setting out for an outing when Ejire ran to them, insisting she would like to go out with them.

However, she got disappointed when her parents refused to take her along after telling her that the motorcycle they would be riding to their destination was not in good condition to accommodate more than two persons.

Ejire was said to have continued to pester her parents, threatening to do something nasty if she was not taken out.

Dismissing her words, Ejire’s parents embarked on their outing in the afternoon of Christmas day.

One of their neighbours who spoke with THE POINT on condition of anonymity, explained that the girl got annoyed and ran inside her room after her parents left.

She was said to have been discovered inside her room dangling on a rope and after she was rushed to a hospital, she was pronounced dead on arrival.

“Everyone was already enjoying Christmas, when we suddenly heard Ejire’s elder brother screaming and calling for help. He kept on shouting her name and all of us started coming out. We saw him shaking her sister who was already on a rope inside their room. We rushed her to Osogbo Central Hospital, Oke-Baale but the doctor told us she was brought in dead.

“It was after we called their parents who later lamented how Ejire had wanted to follow them out but they refused because their motorcycle was having mechanical issues. The mother disclosed how Ejire had told them that “I will do something you won’t like if you don’t take me out with you.” The mother said she thought it was just a kid statement, not knowing that she was going to commit suicide,” the source said.
