Shariah Court orders detention of man over alleged tricycle theft

A Shariah court sitting in Hotoro Quarters, Kano has ordered the detention of Hafeez Musa in a correctional facility over alleged tricycle theft.

The suspect was alleged to have lured a tricycle operator to a criminal hideout where he was attacked, his tricycle snatched away.

The prosecution counsel from Ministry of Justice in Kano State, BS Farouk, informed the court that the suspect was identified by one of his victims whom he allegedly tried to lure again.

The complainant, Nura Manir, told the court that “I recognised him when he stopped me this time around. He once chartered me. At some point, while taking him to his destination, I became unconscious after he sprayed an unknown substance on me and took away my tricycle valued at N700, 000, 00.

“This time, when he stopped me and asked that I should take him to Unguwar, I recognised him. There and then I shouted out for help. People gathered and took both of us to a nearby police station,” Manir said.

However, the accused person denied the allegations against him, saying, “From Allah we came and to Him we shall return, I have never met this man in my life and I have never had dealings with him.”

The presiding judge, Khadi Abdul Abdullahi Waya, adjourned the case till later date and ordered that the suspect be remanded in a correctional facility.
