THE Nigerian Air Force, on Sunday, confirmed that seven persons onboard a Beechcraft KingAir B350i aircraft died when the plane crashed in Abuja.
The military aircraft was said to be on its way to Minna, Niger State, when it developed an engine problem at about 10.39am.
It subsequently crash-landed at the final approach path of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Runway 22, around 10:48am and caught fire.
Director of Public Relations and Information, NAF, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, in a statement, said the Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal IO Amao, had ordered an immediate investigation into the incident.
“This is to confirm that a Nigerian Air Force Beechcraft KingAir B350i aircraft crashed while returning to the Abuja Airport after reporting engine failure enroute Minna. First responders are at the scene. Sadly, all 7 personnel on board died in the crash,” he said.
“While urging the general public to remain calm and await the outcome of investigation, the CAS, on behalf of all NAF personnel, commiserates with the families of the deceased,” he added.
