A crowd of hoodlums, on Saturday, stormed the Taraba State Government warehouse, carting away COVID-19 palliatives.

About seven people were said to have been killed in the stampede that ensued while many others sustained injuries.

The Point learnt that the bodies of the deceased had been deposited at the mortuary in the Federal Medical Centre on Sunday morning.

Eyewitnesses said those who invaded the warehouse were not necessarily hoodlums but hungry indigenes who were called to come and get free food items that had allegedly been hoarded by the state government.

Following the widespread looting of COVID-19 houses and shops, the Taraba State Government had imposed a curfew on Jalingo.

The curfew took effect from 11pm on Saturday and will end at 8am on Monday, for a review by the government.

There has been unrestricted looting of warehouses that housed the relief items across the country in the past days by rampaging youths.

Some hoodlums had, on Saturday, besieged Magboro Communities in Ogun in search of warehouses that might be storing COVID-19 palliatives.

The youths had trooped to the community, on the Lagos/Ibadan expressway, as early as 7am, moving from house-to-house in search of COVID-19 palliatives.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has, however, directed police commanders to reclaim the public space and protect private and public properties, including the Nigerian citizens.
