MEN of the Osun State Police Command allegedly attacked residents of Ofatedo community in Egbedore Local Government Area of Osun State while protesting the death of a 21-year-old Idris Ajibola who died while being chased by officers of the Joint Task Force.

Two of the protesters were said to have been arrested during the demonstration.

It was gathered that armed policemen had on Wednesday, opened fire on the protesters, following which a stray bullet hit a 17-year-old girl, Rachael Abioye.

The Point learnt that the victim was rushed to one Emmanuel Hospital in Osogbo.

The youths in Ofatedo during the protest, barricaded the Ofatedo/Ido Osun Road, set up bonfires on the road and prevented vehicles from passing.

Sources told The Point that the police shot bullets in the air to disperse the protesters in Ofatedo.

While reacting, the Public Relations Officer of Osun Command, Yemisi Opalola, said three police officers sustained series of injuries during a face-off with the protesters and had been admitted at Police hospital in Osogbo.

She explained that another officer was also attacked with stones and some weapons on Tuesday evening at Oke-fia while coming from duty.

Opalola confirmed that two protesters in Ofatedo were arrested with guns.

“An eyewitness came to report how protesters brutalised and attempted to kill one police officer that was just coming from duty on Tuesday. More so, three of our men were also shot,” she claimed.
