Nigeria Pillar of Sports, Chief Donatus Agu Ejidike, has charged the Super Eagles to remain focused and be determined to prove their mettle in the Mundial by winning the trophy for the first time for Africa.

Ejidike told The Point that though soccer pundits had expressed divergent opinions on how far the Super Eagles would go in the championship, he said it was possible for them to spring surprises as it happened in 1996 when the Dream Team won the Olympics soccer gold, as well as the Flying Eagles’ great show at Saudi Arabia’89 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Ejidike further observed that pitching Super Eagles in Group D against the like of much-dreaded Argentina, Croatia and Iceland does not mean Nigeria will not excel in the group.

“I have the inclination that Super Eagles will not only survive the group but go far in the Mundial,” Ejidike told The Point with great optimism.

He called for prayers and support for the national team, even as he cautioned against comments and remarks that may dampen the spirit of the players.

He added that Coach Rohr has breathed life and transformed the team ever since he assumed office as Super Eagles coach.

The Super Eagles will tango for the maximum points in their second game on Friday, June 22, against Iceland.
