AGNES NWORIE, ABAKALIKI
Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has debunked the rumour doing the round that his late Commissioner for Infrastructural Development, Fidelis Nweze, has resurrected as untrue.
The governor had, on 22nd of June, broken the news of the passage of the late commissioner at the Government House Centenary City in Abakaliki, the state capital.
The Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Francis Nwaze, aired the opinion of his principal on his Facebook page, saying, “Fake News. People should stop spreading news that is not verified; it is inflicting more pain on those that are currently mourning.
“No picture evidence, no confirmation from the hospital or mortuary, why on earth should we engage in hearsay at this critical time? The state is still in a mourning mood. Though it is a very hard pill to swallow, we have to accept the reality before us.”
Before the Facebook message which changed the mood of the people of the state, there was jubilation across the state over the rumour.
The jubilant crowd, comprising widows, orphans and other less privileged, had thronged his residences at Abakaliki and Onueke to confirm the rumour.
The Ebonyi State Government is currently observing a three-day fasting and prayer ending on Saturday on the account of his death.
