Armed robbers numbering about eight on Tuesday laid siege to Skye Bank, Ogbagi Akoko branch, in Ondo State and made away with millions of naira.

The invasion was said to have caught the management of the bank napping, as the invaders who initially pretended to be customers, reportedly brandished guns with which they attacked customers.

The aggressive robbers were said to have entered into the banking hall very early in the morning, and shortly after asked customers to lie face down.

Apparently angered by customers’ non-compliance, the robbers shot at them indiscriminately, killing three in the process, while scores of others were wounded.

Having overpowered their victims and cordoned off the entire environment, the uninvited armed men were said to have made for the strong room which they emptied, leaving sorrow and blood in their wake.

Eye witness accounts have it further that, the operation lasted for about an hour.

“The Police at Oke-Egako did not respond to distress calls on time. By the time they finally managed to come, the robbers had gone with their loot,” said Mr. Debo Ajilo, a resident of the town.

It could not be confirmed if any security guard was attached to the bank, as the panicked residents of Ogbagi were seen discussing the matter in hushed tones, saying that they had never seen such a thing before.

The management of the ill-fated bank could not immediately be contacted for comments. Meanwhile, investigation was ongoing, according to the police.
