A young man simply identified as Olorunwa has been reportedly killed as suspected cult groups clashed at Irojo area of Ilesa, Osun State, on Wednesday.
An eyewitness, who spoke to The Point in confidence, said Olorunwa had gone to buy tea for his breakfast when hit by a stray bullet fired by a member of one of the rival gangs.
Olorunwa reportedly works at a sawmill close to the scene of the crossfire.
It was learnt that the clash was between some members of a cult group who renounced their membership and their former colleagues.
The eyewitness said the gun battle broke out between the two rival groups around 9:00am.
Prior to the Wednesday incident, The Point learnt that there was an exchange of gunshots between some residents of Irojo who were repented members of Eye confraternity and a rival group from a neighboring town on Tuesday evening.
A team of policemen from Ijamo Police Station in Ilesa was said to have evacuated the corpse of the victim after residents reportedly deserted the area.
When contacted by our correspodent on the telephone, the Police Public Relations Officer, Osun State Command, SP Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the clash adding that one resident was killed.
Recall that two suspected cultists were reported to have been killed recently by a rival group in two different attacks in Osogbo, the state capital.
