The Senior Pastor of the Covenant Life-Way Church, Richard Ige, has charged the Federal Government to re-introduce the study of history in public secondary schools across the country.
Ige said that lack of history study in schools’ curriculum was the major cause of agitation for a Biafran nation by the Indigenous People of Biafra.
The cleric spoke on the theme, “Nigeria Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow”, at an event organised by ‘The Martinsons’, a group in the church. The event held at the church’s auditorium in Abeokuta, the state’s capital.
He noted that most of the IPOB youths clamouring for Biafra were ignorant of war and were still young when the Biafran war took place in the country.
He said, “Ignorance of history is now a major bane to creating a better future for the country. A lot of people who are agitating for all kinds of things at some moment in Nigeria were not party of history.”
The man of God, however, advised the Federal Government to restore the country’s value system by being honest, sincere and transparent in making its policies for the good of Nigerians.
He said, “Our value system has been totally eradicated. How do we bring back our values? The value system has been tampered with. The issue of corruption is the issue of value.
“The government must establish right policies and it should also be honest and sincere and be transparent with whatever policies it is making.
“It should put up structures to ensure that whatever policies it is putting up for us, for the progress of the Nigerian youths and the future of Nigeria actually get to the people at the grassroots,” he added.
He, therefore, called for the revolution of the mindset among the youths, in the country.
