The staff and students of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, are protesting the suspension of the rector of the institution, Tajudeen Odetayo by Governor Ademola Adeleke.

The staff, under the auspices of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, OSPOLY Iree Chapter, have suspended academic activities at the institution because of the development.

It was gathered that full- time and part-time students of the institution currently writing examinations were also not attended to, leading to the protest.

The chairman of the union, Fatai Afolabi, told journalists on Tuesday that the union did not accept the suspension of Odetayo, as it was not in line with due process.

Afolabi said the union was holding an emergency congress to review the situation.

Some of the students chanted protest songs at the front of the institution carrying placards.

“Governor Ti Dawa, Egbe PDP Ti Fowa Je, Awa Union Deyin Leyin Won, Omi Lo Ma Gbe Won Lo” (The Governor has betrayed us, PDP has disappointed us, we union members are no more supporting them, water will wash them away), the union members chorused.

Governor Ademola Adeleke had in a statement signed on Monday by the Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of Education, M.A.K. Jimoh suspended Odetayo and subsequently announced Alabi Adeyemi, as the acting rector with immediate effect.
